No better way to start the day and blow out the cobwebs than a climb up Sydney Harbour Bridge. The preparation process I must admit is so well organised, even a mock bridge walk before you head up and of course all kitted out in the most unattractive boiler suits possible! We head north on the bridge on the “discovery” climb, which takes you into the heart for an experience of the workings of the bridge, the walk for this takes place in the lower arch of the bridge where you climb to the summit at the centre point. I was pleasantly surprised at how manageable the climb was and I had expected it to be more laborious than it actually was. The view from the top, 134 meters above the harbour, was one in a million, Sydney has so much to offer to the eye. The experience was fantastic, and our climb leaders were so informative, not sure if Cuzzy enjoyed it a much as I did, he felt there was no adrenaline rush, what did he think, we were going to Bungee off the top?!
We then headed to the Sydney Opera House where we enjoyed lunch and laughs at the Opera Bar, there I challenged Cuzzy to an Aussie style trivia quiz, me off course winning hands down! The tour of the Opera House was spectacular…..what an architectural wonder?! We were lucky enough to be in the concert hall while the Sydney Symphony Orchestra were practicing for their later performances. Its only when you actually see them play that you really appreciate the music for what it is. I also got a chance to practice my fine acting skills in “The Studio”, Shakespearesk type acting that is!! The worrying thing is that of course it was all caught on camera!
Dinner was in The Bank Hotel a cool contemporary Thai restaurant and bar in Newtown where Cuzzy tried his first Oyster, the facial expressions and the tear in his eye confirmed the reasons why I don’t eat them myself. Sydney Comedy Store, Australia’s premiere stand up comedy club followed, where we got to experience a real Aussie comedian, Will Anderson, top bloke actually and apparently one of Australians funniest and most famous comedians, unfortunately I really think you had to be Aussie to understand a lot of his gags but that’s not to say I didn’t have a great night and any unrelated Aussies jokes were actually hilarious! The Comedy Store itself is a really intimate and reputable club, an lucky for me Neil Delamare a star of Irish comedy is gigging there next week, so I will be sure to make it for his first night, check him out on youtube and I might see some of you there too!!
