Starting Day Two with a Surf on Bondi

We finished off yesterday with a trip to Sydney Olympic Park for Wallbies V’s France.  It wasn’t to difficult to see a noticeable difference between Irish supporters at a rugby game and Aussie supporters at a rugby game…I’m yet to figure out the Aussie supporters song!  The Olympic stadium was very impressive and our seats not so bad either, but most importantly after waving vigorously and doing a serious of dances I got my face on the big screen!!

An early start to day two began with breakfast in “Trio” on Bondi Beach and a surprise activity.  First surprise activity revealed as surfing on Bondi!  With “Big Wave Dave” as our instructor we were sure to get standing in no time.  I have been surfing many times in Ireland but it was great to get a lesson from a real Aussie, which in hindsight paid off, he had me popping up straight to my feet, there was no option to kneel up first with “Big Wave Dave” and before I knew it I was turning on the wave like a real pro…well I let you be the judge of that when the video goes up!!

Next stop, Bondi Markets where I was really impressed by the content.  Not a huge market, but some cool chic stalls with stylish clothes, bags and jewellery.  I didn’t manage to pick up something which was strange for me, obviously the salt water from the surfing had gone to my head, but I would definetly reccomend it to anyone who make it to Bondi and the weekends.  We enjoyed lunch on the balcony of North Bondi RSL Surf Club which has the most magnificent view of Bondi Beach and its surfers, the amount of which I am still overwhelmed by, the whole of the beach bursting with very talented surfers.  To top it all off, watching Whales floating around the harbour was more than stunning!

I used to think Bowls was for the over 70′s, not in Sydney anyway!  We were brought to Paddington Bowls club for barefoot bowls (not so barefoot in our case!).  I have to admit my bowling skills were nothing to write home about,  but the club itself was impressive and heaving with young trendy people, something I didn’t expect at all.  We finished off our evening in the Lord Dudley Pub which is a traditional Old English Pub.  Nothing better to close off the day in a chilled out atmosphere on the cosy couches of the Lord Dudley in front of the fire with a few beers..
