Day two – Nothing a bit of SURF and REDBULL can’t cure

Day two in Sydney had a bit of everything. It was long, tiring but action packed.

The previous night we had gone to watch the Australia vs France Rugby Union game. The Anz stadium is a very nice new stadium, it’s a shame that more people didn’t turn up. There wasn’t much of an atmosphere until an Australian girl who was a spitting image of Princess Leila from Star Trek, decided to get absolutely hammered and make a fool of herself. This was much for entertaining than the game. Wish we had the camera crew there to record it.

Today we were up bright and early to head to Bondi beach again, where we had breakfast at a nice cafe called Trio’s. Ordered a ‘Big Breakfast’. A lot better than a ‘greasy spoon’ back home. We then had our first suprise activity of the day. A surfing lesson with ‘Let’s go surfing’. I was particularly excited about this as I have never surfed before. We had a little crowd with us so the pressure was on. ‘Big Wave Dave’ was our instructor. Big personality who everyone knew in Bondi, but definitely knew his stuff. Told me a few stories about when he helped Germany’s Next Top Model show one day. Derv had surfed before so it wasn’t long before she was up surfing away whilst I was swallowing gallons of seawater. But I finally got up on the waves. Not looking quite ‘cool’ but up none the less. This was my favourite event of the past few days and I definitely want to go surfing again.

We then took a trip to Sydney Market. Very suprised on how much fashionable clothing it has there. Some question my fashion sense so this may be an incorrect statement :) Bought a couple of t-shirts for $50. Nearly bought a viking helmet but didn’t think customs would appreciate it.

Next stop was Bondi’s RSL. This is a bit like a social club back in England, but a lot nicer, and facing Bondi beach. Enough said. Grabbed a bit to eat there and watched the Whales in the ocean.

We then went to play Barefoot bowls. I was expecting this place to be full of 70 year old men, taking about the war, but it was full of under 35′s all drinking. It is a very sociable place. So we had teams of 3 and bowling it out whilst having a few vodka redbulls. The redbull was much needed.

We then stopped by a local English style pub called the Lord Dudley. Got comfortable on the sofa’s there, had a few more redbulls. I could have stayed there all night, but we had to head to Manly to get to our new hotel for tomorrow’s activities. Got an ocean facing room which is reallllllllly nice. Going to try catch up with some sleep tonight, which is long overdue.
