Today started very early for me, up since 4am thanks to my lovely friend “Jeg-lag”! Started the day with a coffee and stroll around Darling Harbour, which I must admit was refreshing, weather is not as I expected it to be, slightly colder than I had imagined, nothing like a cool breeze to keep you awake!
First stop, Sydney Aquarium, which in all honesty would not be on the top of my “must see” list on a usual holiday, turned out to be much fun and impressive. Amanda the Aquarist, kindly informed us of the living and eating habits of the infamous Dugongs (or Dudongs/Wallagongs as Cuzzy would call them)! We also got up close and personal to sea turtles and sharks, but through a glass tunnel which was close enough for me!
Favourite part of the day for me so far was Sydney Seafood School at Sydney Fish Market, the lesson started with a demonstation of how to prepare and cook, hot and sour prawn soup, red curry of fish, grilled squid salad and thai fish cakes. Demonstration lasted about an hour and half, the aroma of the receipes would be enough to get anyones tummys rumbling! I would have never of known how to prepare such food so the demonsration was a must! We were put into groups of five for the cooking part. I decided I had to gut the squid, something I would be sure to turn my nose up in any normal situation, but in the circumstances, I decided, why not?? , Scooping minature fish from the belly of a squid obviously not long after his “last supper”…not the most pleasant experience in the world! We worked as a group to prepare all the different dishes and sat together afterwards to taste the end result. Not only did we enjoy the experience of preparing and cooking the food but we also enjoyed getting acquainted our fellow group members and eating the fruits of our labour!
Next stop today, Wallabies V’s France at ANZ stadium at Sydney Olympic park, my alliance will be with the Wallaies, follow my tweets for the rest of the evening…
